Sophia Ammann (BE)
With an angelic voice, Belgian-Canadian singer-songwriter is releasing her debut, with music that moves and sooths the soul. In the past, she was the frontwoman of the band Little Dots. The band was artist in residence at Ancienne Belgique, and performed at Eurosonic and Gent Jazz. She was also the regular singer with Ansatz Der Maschine. In recent years, she has mainly toured with the project Sophia Ammann plays Leonard Cohen, a sold-out tour that brought her to over 30 cultural centers. The project also led to a small tour in Nepal and Canada. Now ready to carve out her own path, she’s releasing her solo debut. Sophia delivers idiosyncratic indie songs that tell a story and speak in a rich visual language. Expect cinematic tracks at the crossroads of indie, folk, and country, drenched in magical realism.
For the recording of her debut album, she traveled to the U.S. in March 2024 to work with producer Shane Leonard (Josh Ritter, Anna Tivel, Flora Hibberd, Humbird). Belgian musician Tim Vandenbergh (The Colorist Orchestra, SunSunSun) contributed to the production and arrangements, and flew to the U.S. for the recordings. He will also join her live for the release concerts on bass, alongside drummer Jan Dhaene (Ansatz Der Maschine) and Dietrich Strause (U.S.) on piano, keys, guitars, and backing vocals.
